Facebook gives users the ability to customize News Feeds
Facebook announced that it will allow users to develop category-specific News Feeds that resemble the layouts of newspapers or magazines. In fact, Zuckerberg called it the “best personalized newspaper.” The News Feeds individualize the customer experience because each user can control the constant activity influx he or she sees. Users will be able to create separate feeds for new articles, photos, and music, similar to the different sections of a newspaper. This further highlights how Facebook is responding to Twitter, who has positioned itself as the number one social media newspaper. This change will affect advertisers who may need to create content-specific ads, but Facebook is still working out the details. Facebook users will be able to view their standard News Feed, which applies an algorithm to sort what users likely wish to see. But with just the click of a button, Facebook users will be easily able to switch over to the News Feeds that they create, which will improve their relationship with the social media platform.
