Can Google be a place?

by dablakely

An interesting article on TechCrunch this weekend is suggesting that the mega-cloud giant known as Google may be working towards creating a physical store front.  The stores are being reported to be focused on the devices that Google has to offer (Nexus, Chromebooks, etc) but also seem to be a way to prepare for the coming of their awe inspiring project Glass.  Currently Google has “Chrome Zones” installed into existing retailers (Best Buy, etc) as a chance to dabble in the physical store without the “decent chunk of money” that is needed for opening their own.  Will this new store just be another Apple copy cat like the Microsoft store?  Isn’t the move from web based to physical stores counter intuitive to the digital age?  While Google has done some of this transformation with their new Fiber project testing in Kansas City, I still am not sold on this concept at all.  Claims are that they will be opening stores by the holidays of this year, so 2013 could see the rise of a new digital goliath into a physical terror!
