Matt Nelson on Nike

On the heels of recently being named Fast Company’s #1 most innovative company in 2012 Nike CEO Mark Parker gives readers a taste of what the future might bring from the sports apparel giant. As a company they are narrowing their gaze into more of a digital and service oriented focused industry. Nike, from its earliest days of Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight has always done a great job in ‘Listening to the Voice of the Athlete’ one of the company’s main tenements. However, today they are now widening the term athlete, as it states in their mission, if you have a body you are in athlete. They are using their Nike + format to not only allow consumers to get a better understanding of their body, fitness level,  and work out regimes but also taking some of those key insights for themselves. This will only help them better know and therefore better serve their customers’ needs in the future.
